I told my husband I feel like I need a major brain I told my husband I feel like I need a major brain dump because I’ve got “SQUIRREL” syndrome this week. I just cannot stay focused on anything. So much on my mind. A few friends (@treehouse_schoolhouse/ @raising.wild.wests) talked today about the rawness of this life.

My pal, Lyndsey @treehouse_schoolhouse, first shared on her stories today and in her feed about staying real on this platform and normalizing NORMAL lives. Chelsea, @raising.wild.wests, reiterated these sentiments in her stories. I could not agree with them more. While it’s nice to have a pretty feed and share all the fun, beautiful, educational resources out there for our consumption...it’s not realistic or sustainable.

It’s funny...coming from a homeschooled background in the 90s, where nothing was on display or where comparison wasn’t really an issue.... it’s rampant on these platforms. Allowing others who feel like they are drowning in this and not measuring up, to see the REAL rawness of this life/challenge we’ve been called to is of utmost importance. Feeds are pretty. Books are lovely. That’s not going to keep the tired, burned out mama going while she’s in the day to day trenches. She needs to know she is not alone. We are all cleaning up poop and meals and toys all day long. We are all questioning our curriculum choices occasionally. We are all ready to throw in the towel on a really rough day at times. And some days even opening a Bible seems like one more thing to check off a list. (I mean, I can’t be the only one?) We aren’t in this for the glory. For the followers. For the pats on the back. We are in it for OUR CHILDREN. For the kingdom building. For lifting each other up.

I don’t ever want someone to feel like they aren’t doing enough. Aren’t good enough. Aren’t strong enough to do this work we’ve been called to. I try my best to be 100% myself (awkward as I may be) on this platform and I do want you to know I do not always have my stuff together. Mkay?? I need JESUS on the daily just like any other mama with a feral four year old. (She’s gonna be the death of me.)

Give God your days. Do what you can. Scrap the rest of your plans and make a memory! You are doing kingdom work!
Death. Darkness. Silence. And then... “Why do y Death. Darkness. Silence. And then...

“Why do you look for the living among the dead?
Jesus is not here! He has risen!
Remember how he told you he would rise.
It was while he was still with you in Galilee.
He said, ‘The Son of Man must be handed
over to sinful people. He must be nailed to a cross.
On the third day he will rise from the dead.’”
‭‭
Luke‬ ‭24:5-7‬

Praise God! Jesus is ALIVE! I cried all the way through our lessons today with An Expectant Easter. Death is defeated! This is the most amazing story ever told. I will never stop sharing it! I may not have some amazing conversion story, but He died for me just the same. He’s constantly pursuing me and showing me the way.

The new life that spring brings is the perfect time to celebrate the new life you can have in Christ Jesus! Thank you, Lord for saving me!

An Expectant Easter: Week 2, Day 3 Jesus and Pila An Expectant Easter: Week 2, Day 3

Jesus and Pilate. This is where the story starts to get real for me. The humbleness and resolve of Jesus as he is taken to be “judged”. He could have stopped this madness at any moment. But he didn’t. He could have called down heaven’s angel army. But he didn’t.

His goal WAS the cross.

His goal was the CROSS.

I’ve read The Tale of Three Trees before, and I’m familiar with Angela Elwell Hunt’s writing from a series I read as a teen... it made me sob again today. His manger, the boat on which he calmed the storm, and ultimately the wooden cross on which he made his greatest sacrifice. All point us to our Heavenly Father who is so, so good.

Our hymn this week is one of my all time favorites...

🎶And when before the throne
I stand in him complete
Jesus died my soul to save
My lips shall still repeat

Jesus paid it all
All to him I owe
Death had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow #🎶

👨🏽‍🎨🎨 An Expectant Easter, Week 2, D 👨🏽‍🎨🎨 An Expectant Easter, Week 2, Day 2. We learned more about the artist nicknamed El Greco (The Greek in Spanish) today, originally from the island of Crete, south of Greece. He is known for his unconventional use of stretchy subjects and light and shadow in his work. His life wasn’t as drama filled as say, Vincent Van Gogh, but nevertheless there is always something to be learned from someone who has worked hard at a skill and then fearlessly doing it the way they want to. I really love his work and his use of color and emotion.

The painting featured in our Easter curriculum brings me to tears. The welling up in Christ’s eyes as he carries the world’s burdens. So thankful for a God who sacrificed everything for me. Thankful for the reminder of His never ending love.

This is my body. This is my blood. Broken and pour This is my body. This is my blood. Broken and poured out for you. Do this in remembrance of me. 🍞🍷

An Expectant Easter Day 4 in the books. We practiced humility and servanthood by washing each other’s feet. We remembered Jesus’ sacrifice by partaking in communion together. I know that it can be chaotic to do these things with little children who only want to splash in the water and treat communion like a snack (🙄).

✨ It’s the long game here, Mamas! ✨

The explaining, the reminders, and the sharing of the greatest sacrifice. Year over year they are learning and growing...just like US. They don’t have to fully get it right now...it’s a lot to try to understand. Keep sharing though. It IS getting through.

What was the world like when Jesus walked the eart What was the world like when Jesus walked the earth? What were the cultural norms? What was he up against in the ideology and beliefs of the time?

We are using this book alongside our Easter schooling this month to shed light on the culture at the time of the story of Jesus and his sacrifice.

Our library has it, but I purchased a copy a while back because I knew it would be a great reference tool. Sometimes just reading the story in the Bible doesn’t give the full picture of everything at play in the time Jesus walked the earth.

Today we discussed sacrifices and the hierarchy of power during this time. A friend (@lifeamonglilies) reminded me to impress upon my children that the people did not decide Jesus’ fate. He went willingly. *Cue the tears.*

We are also using my childhood Egermeier’s Bible Story Book because it does a great job of telling these stories in such a beautiful way.

What are some of your favorite biblical resources outside of the Bible?

Oh, Humphrey. The not so humble camel. Isn’t thi Oh, Humphrey. The not so humble camel. Isn’t this just like us though? Boasting of our greatness when it isn’t about us at all? He must become greater, I must become less. Our Savior rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. Not on a mighty stead as would be expected of a king. He came to make all things new...and not how the Pharisees thought it would be. May I keep my eyes open and not become lost in my own expectations.

Started An Expectant Easter today, and while I always have visions of the calm and serene learning that will transpire...it didn’t go that way. Mama humbled. Check.

Present the gospel daily to your kids. It will be messy. It will not be what you had planned, do it anyway!

“Under a radiant moon and surrounded by all the “Under a radiant moon and surrounded by all the noises of the city at night, a little boy prays for those in need, for wars to end, for the sick to be healed, and for all the members of his family.”

This was a beautifully illustrated, sweet story that brought me to tears. Our heavenly Father calls us to pray for those in need. Those who cannot help themselves. Those who are carrying heavy burdens. I choose to stand in the gap for my brothers and sisters who are in dark places. Places that seem to have no hope.

How can I pray for you today, friend?
