Who is ready to PLAN??? My 2024-2025 Customizable Homeschool Planners are ready to be downloaded and in your hands! These super editable planners are the same pieces I’ve used as my personal homeschool planner for four children for the last seven years! They are simplistic in their design, without too much extra to overwhelm. Easy to print-at-home and customize to your heart’s content!

Rachel of @educationofawanderingwoman joined me today for my Homeschool Hangout! Now I wish we lived closer so we could really hangout! Oh, and her drink today looked so interesting… a la croix with a @just.ingredients addition!

Rachel’s homeschool with two girls aged 7 and 11 is heavily Charlotte Mason influenced. We talked about Ambleside and feeling intimidated at first!

I was really encouraged by her conversation regarding the challenges we have as homeschool mamas and I feel like we don’t talk about it enough. The different hats we wear and responsibilities we have…

We both commiserated a bit about wishing we’d been more longsighted when our kids were really young. If we’d immersed ourselves in educational philosophies and such ahead of time… would we have felt more confident initially??

This is an excerpt from one of the newest picture books in our home collection — The King and the Dragon written by James W. Shrimpton (@jameswshrimptonwrites) and illustrated by Helena Perez Garcia (@helena.perezgarcia).

This is a very imaginative, rhyming style story that helps children to understand God’s redemption plan through the characters of a King, a Knight, and a Dragon. Beautifully illustrated and engaging… we highly recommend this book!

What a fun chat today! Wendy of @planpreppray join

What a fun chat today! Wendy of @planpreppray joined me today on my Homeschool Hangout and we had a ball.

She’s a mama to five kids from 12 all the way to one-year-old (as of TODAY)!

Her homeschool style is of a traditional/eclectic sort, and she shared some resources they really love using in their home. @biblioplan and @apologiaworld audiobooks for one!

I love the wisdom she had to share about the importance of community in homeschooling. She’s actually a part of an awesome community called Made2Homeschool (@made2homeschool) and she gave us lots of information about that. If you’re interested in learning more, please reach out to her!

It’s always such a pleasure to get time to talk

It’s always such a pleasure to get time to talk with another mama about her homeschool and glimpse into what works and what doesn’t for her unique family. Today was no exception as I got some time to chat with Rachael Alsbury (@rachael.alsbury) during my Homeschool Hangout.

Rachael’s family follows an unschooling approach and I love the passion she has for helping her kids chase their own interests.

Rachael shared math resources with us today like @teachingtextbooks, Saxon, and Life of Fred. She also shared that getting outdoors regularly has been more of a challenge lately. I can commiserate on that.

I really liked what she had to say about what she’s learned over the years regarding the time it takes for our kids to learn something… it may not be what you think!

Rachael also shared with us two amazing resources that she is working on right now.
• Wonder Journal App - this is a work in progress, but sounds SO amazing.
• Courses/Workshops for the new homeschool family.

You are buying into a lie… if you believe that

You are buying into a lie…

if you believe that you can or should “do it all”. I mean… you can TRY, but I can almost guarantee that you will end up exhausted, irritable, angry, bitter, and discouraged. Take that from someone who bought into the lie for years. I was discussing this topic with a friend (@kristiblankenship) after we both had a slightly frustrating week. (Anyone else?)

As mamas we have a lot to juggle. I believe we can do these things with grace and to the glory of God. These children were given to us to nurture, rear, disciple, gracefully discipline, and educate (whether at home or in addition to building school education). I do not take any of that lightly. I’m reminded daily what a blessing it is to be where I am in life. That is not to be taken for granted.

All that aside, it can be tempting to feel like we are completely inadequate. “How can they do all these things and look so put together? I’m over here putting out a dumpster fire of a day and I haven’t showered in a week let alone feed myself a balanced meal today!”

Can I share a secret with you? No one is doing it all.

There are always going to be struggles and challenges we do not see. Sleepless nights with babies, toddler tantrums, moody pre-teens, resistance to doing chores or schooling, messy bedrooms, health needs, relationship issues…

There could also be help and assistance that we aren’t aware of. Perhaps an occasional house cleaning service, family members that cook, childcare help, a tutor, outsourcing of some education, waking early, staying up late… We all choose how we spend our time, money, and efforts.

So when you think you are just not cutting it as a mother because you aren’t doing XYZ… please remember that you are not the only one. Chances are a lot of us are feeling exactly the same. I would just encourage you to really look at why you feel this way. Is it an external pressure from society? Social media? Our own perception of friend’s households? Or an internal pressure that we’ve put on ourselves?
