Welcome back! Today I had the pleasure of talking with my friend, Evgeniia of @at.nourished.motherhood here on Instagram.

She’s a mama to a sweet, very active boy and also runs a business coaching mothers who want to take ownership of their health and well being.

I really loved what she had to say about the things she has learned while homeschooling and the things she has realized are the most important.

We discussed some resources she uses in her homeschool, two of which are:
@fortheloveofhomeschooling Mega Bundles and @thepeacefulpress Nature Studies!

Evgeniia offers one-on-one health coaching, but it’s so much more than that. She wants moms to wake up with energy, capacity, and clarity while nourishing themselves well and making small changes each step of the way.

This week she is hosting a 3-day metabolic health challenge and I will share about that in my stories. There will also be a 28-day “marathon” after this of slow and steady habits that can be built during this time.

Embarrassingly, church history is not something I

Embarrassingly, church history is not something I personally have a depth of knowledge in. I have heard names and have a general understanding, but that’s about it when it comes to several of these brave men and women of God.

When I was planning our year this summer, I knew that I wanted to incorporate more history of our faith background into our school days. We already use the Christian Heroes Then & Now series, and my older two are reading through Foxe’s Book of Martyrs this year. However, for morning time (sometimes it’s not in the morning) when all the kids are gathered together, I needed something that my six-year-old in particular would be able to grasp (and have the attention span for).

Crossway Publishers (@crosswaybooks) has a few books centered on these Christian men and women and I selected the book Church History ABCs by Stephen J. Nichols and Ned Bustard.

This book includes a page for 26 heroes of faith all corresponding to a letter in the alphabet. (You can see a couple examples in the second photo.) It’s a brief overview, but gives us a jumping off point for further discussion and research. We have been adding in a YouTube video or additional read-aloud to give us further insight into the life of each person.

God, You Are Holy

God, You Are with Me

God, You Are My Rock

The Psalms are full of beautiful character depictions of God. This sweet book written by William R. Osborne focuses on twenty “You Are” statements that assist children ages 4-8 (or thereabouts) in grasping the imagery in these specific passages.

These short readings would make an excellent addition to bedtime reading, but we have been including them as a part of our morning time selections. Each day is a different “You Are” statement followed by a scripture reference from the Psalms illustrating that character of God. The author then takes a few paragraphs to give real life examples and applications of these character traits along with an additional scripture reference. The reading ends with a very short, specific prayer idea centered on these applications.

The book’s 48 pages are beautifully illustrated by Brad Woodard, as each image helps to bring concepts like God as our hiding place, our King, our deliverer, and our fortress to life. There are an additional ten promises from the Psalms included at the back of the book for further study.

🌿 This would be a great addition to biblical studies for the early years as a part of a school day or as a sweet bedtime routine inclusion! Have you read this one with your family?

My guest today was Mindy of @redefiningschool! She

My guest today was Mindy of @redefiningschool! She has an education background and is mama to three sons (14, 12, and 7). I loved hearing her journey to homeschooling and she had such great advice to offer for those just getting started.

I especially appreciated what she had to say about the need to remove good things at times to make room and peace. I feel like this is such a hard thing to do for many of us, but the payoff is worth it.

I also loved what she had to say about curating a community of other homeschoolers which gives us a bit of “confidence in numbers”. I find this to be so important!

✏️ In case you didn’t know this, Mindy has several courses that she has designed and teaches every year! She has Middle School Literature Survey courses, Middle School Writing courses, and new as of this coming year… a High School C.S. Lewis course!! She has developed the materials and also hosts the live sessions with the students. ✨✨✨ Open enrollment starts this Thursday, MAY 23RD and will close on Saturday, JUNE 15TH!

Ooookay, I knew today was going to be fun, but it was REALLY fun. Jasmine of @atruerhomeschool joined me today for my Homeschool Hangout and I think my cheeks hurt from laughing!

Jasmine is a mama of four (aged 2-12) and enjoys pulling from various educational philosophies and resources. She loves block scheduling, which can help when time management is not so…managed. 🤪

I loved her advice from those early years of homeschooling… stay off the Google. Talk to people you know and find real people on Instagram who can point you in the right directions.

🧮 Jasmine gushed about her love for @jackandlinktoys and especially their mini-writeables. Who else love Jack + Link??

🪴 I also love how she incorporates gardening in to their days!

🤍 As a mama she’s leaning into a love of budgeting, scheduling, and using the word “no” without extra explanation. Love that!
